The Moon Also Sets

Porchlight: A Journal of Southern Literature

(online only)

"The Moon Also Sets” follows a middle-aged widow, unfairly dubbed "Crazy-Anne" by much of her small town in the American South, after she survives a lightning strike that causes intense changes to her personality. Whether a medical reaction to the electrical shock or just a seismic event having caused Anne to value her life differently, she begins to denounce everything she feels has trapped her for most of her adulthood—most notably her town's expectation that she maintain manners and good graces.
